The Natural Choice

As the wine industry increases its commitment to sustainable practices in the production and marketing of wine, cork is a natural fit for that commitment. Cork is a sustainable, natural, recyclable product.

Cork oak forests

Cork harvesting is performed by hand with traditional tools, minimizing environmental impact and actually improving the health of the tree. As a testament to the success of our methods, not only are the cork forests thriving, but the total acreage of harvestable trees is expanding year over year.

Cork oaks remove CO2 (a greenhouse gas) from the air as they grow. The cork forests of Portugal are diverse, healthy ecologies, supporting a variety of plants and animals including rare and endangered species like the Iberian Lynx.

The cork is processed in Portugal close to where it is grown, minimizing transportation related carbon output. We have reduced the use of hazardous chemicals, improving air quality and the safety of our workers. The water used is recycled and filtered and our proprietary cleaning processes never employ chlorine or alcohol.
