M.A. Silva used the latest technology in its development of the Maszone® system. A final cleansing stage for finished corks, this process eliminates all remaining microorganisms and their spores, plus further reduces organic impurities and compounds which could be precursors to off-flavor producing compounds such as TCA. The appearance of finished corks becomes more consistent and homogeneous which leads to higher visual appeal, and better printing or branding clarity. Unlike some competitive solutions, the Maszone® system uses ozone as its primary treating agent, since it is more effective, faster and does not produce hazardous by-products.

Using ozone, the Maszone® system requires very short processing times. Finished corks absorb less solution translating to shorter drying periods. The drying stage is more efficient and uses less energy.

Historically, ozone has been used in water treatment for the removal of color, odors, and taste, oxidation of organic compounds, manganese, and iron, and elimination of pesticide traces. Learn more (link to ozone) how ozone processing works.
